Still not much to it - Lazy susan, Cheap webcam, lazer, couple of steppers, plastic box. I’d think It’ll still have issues scanning shiny objects. Though the quality of the software could make it worth while, but with a kickstarter you never know…
For comparison’s sake:
I need an affordable handheld scanner so i can scan human size sculptures.
Have you seen:

or

I saw that, but the fact that it was constained to apple ipads turned me off it.
this looks pretty good though: http://cubify.com/sense/
I think Apple’s acquisition of PrimeSense is very bad news for anyone that built a product using PrimeSense’s tech. I think the Structure and Sense guys won’t be getting any more sensors beyond what they have contracted already, and since there aren’t really any alternatives this could kill the product.
@April Staines, The Occipital is not strictly constrained to the Apple products - they do have a USB option for Android products. However, they are hoping that someone else takes the ball and starts to run with Android development. Which is definitely less user friendly and designed to keep the hacker community happy. But - yeh - I understand (I’m getting very tired of Apple’s lame curated experience).
@Shachar_Weis I’m afraid you may be dead on with that assumption. Apple isn’t in to innovating the way our community wants to see. They seem to be the MiniMe clone of Microsoft - acquire and destroy - curate and control. Yuck.
Occipital are toast. Their product relies completely on PrimeSense. It’s pretty clear that Apple wants 3D tech in their devices, so why sell sensors to a competitor?
@Rojer_Wisner and to drive that point home, the very first thing that Apple did - on the same day they announced the purchase - was to close the PrimeSense camera online store. PrimeSense no longer takes orders for Carmine v1.08 or v1.09.
@Sacher Weiss you don’t need to convince me. I saw that news. Like I said (somewhere), Apple is the new Microsoft. Scorched Earth policy and all.
