People are showing some useful prints so I thought to show my latest print too!
Since I’ve had a 3D-printer I’ve been wanting to design and print a phone mount-charger for my car. This week I got inspired and made one! The stand fits nicely in the place of original “dummy buttons” on the dashboard and the charger is also hidden inside.
Parts are printed in PLA (Don’t worry, it does not get so hot in Finland that the parts would soften), sanded down and painted with rubber coating. The design could have been crispier if the paint would have been something bit thinner but on the other hand the rubber coating also hides some artifacts. And there is some defects still visible.
The desing consists of three different parts so if I change my phone (or my car) I can print out just needed parts to suit the new needs.
Overall I’m happy how this came out. Phone is Huawei Mate S and car is Audi A4 1996 if someone is interested.
too bad i can only +1 this once
Nice! I would probably do something like this but my car has Android Auto. An 8" screen works just fine. Lol. Although this would have been nice a couple years ago when I use to have my grand am.
@Kevin_Danger_Powers Yeah, hope I have similiar setup in my next car
Sadly Android Auto isn’t yet available for mobile in Finland…
Great setup! never liked the storebought holders. This one looks better than any I have ever seen. Big cheers to you!
@Joris_Hazeleger Thanks! Me neither. Those what I’ve seen have been very flimsy and ugly. My goal was to design sturdy and good looking stand and I think this is both!
exactly what 3d printers are for
That’s damn good, I’m impressed
Could you share your CAD files? I’ve got an Audi as well (more recent model) and my phone is a S7, but would be able to use your’s a base (and make it also public for other interested).
@Michael_Memeteau I uploaded the files to GrabCAD: https://grabcad.com/library/phone-stand-for-audi-a4-b5-and-huawei-mate-s-1
I didn’t add any instructions because I made this model basically for me and it probably will not work for anyone else as it is. But of course you can ask here a specific questions if you want.
This is my car but not my phone, i will look it, thanks for share
