Permanent Outdoor Setups and Lessons Learned
Can any of you share experiences with permanent setups and what those taught you as far as best practices and issues you ran into?
i have some 12v ws2812 (3 regular ones in a plastic housing) and this is installed up my stairs.
all but one of the leds is perfect. one right in the middle of the installation has started to fail… flicking on some colours, dim on blue. i think its a resistor fail inside the unit, and it doesn’t fail any of the other units. its just an annoyance.
these have been installed for 2 years now. and the units were fairly cheap off eBay!
ahh… if you get a large amount of leds custom made with connectors etc, make sure they send you a diagram of what you want…
i ended up with 400 12v pixels, all with a molex connector (good) for 3 cables (bad) and 2 flying cables…
this added with 10cm of cable (should have been 15cm…
lots and lots of wasted time resoldering those badboys…
