Playing with Cyclops - doing some interesting test prints involving mixed functional materials and a crappy facsimile of colour mixing. Not the prettiest of prints, but some of the most interesting.
I think @Daniel_Noree will enjoy this, and also @Richard_Horne who has some really cool mixing experience. Also tagging in @Joshua_Rowley and @Steve_Wood_Gyrobot who has just received his Cyclops!
Super cool (or hot), is this bowden or direct drive setup?
That’s bowden, but perhaps soon to be direct drive with your new micro extruder, which looks awesome!
Those are really cool man. What speeds did you print the semi-flex at? Also what was the wipe and prime tower volume you used on either?
@Mike_Kelly_Mike_Make I honestly cannot remember the speeds and purge volumes, but generally around 40mm^3 of purge, and speeds of around 30mm/s.
The material was our Flex PolyEster - which is Shore 65D http://e3d-online.com/Filament/By-Property/Flexible/Flex-PolyEster-Shore-45D-Black-1.75mm-500g
It’s just about stiff enough to print through a bowden tube if you’re careful.
I’m really keen to get a direct extruder (using @Steve_Wood_Gyrobot 's design) on top of the thing, scrap the bowden tubes and print some much softer ninjaflex in conjuction with more rigid materials.
I’ve got this design in the works: http://i.imgur.com/a06SrHr.png
Printed the parts last night to hold it. Just need to find time to finish installing it. Dual direct drive would be nice but I figure it would be uncommon to need to print with 2 flexible materials at the same time.
@Mike_Kelly_Mike_Make That CAD is absurdly sexy. I agree on the single direct drive front, two flexibles is unlikely. I just like the concept of ditching both bowden tubes entirely though.
I agree with that. Especially with the speed limit the cyclops induces bowden is a bit pointless. If I could fit my two bondtech’s on there I would… Just not sure how it could be assembled
@Sanjay_Mortimer1 - remember we didn’t actually even use a prime tower on that dodecachain! (just inside out perimiters if I remember correctly?)
Please @Simplify3D give us prime towers…
