Potential thermal runaway bug

I’ll start by saying I’m not actually looking for help. I do have an MKS which came with my Folger Tech before I knew the difference. This was more of a question around safety. If I understand correctly, MKS just grabs the smoothieware firmware unmodified. If that’s not the case then this probably doesn’t apply.

The issue I had today was I believe related to the way an SD card print from pronterface appears to function. I set my machine to preheat, bed on 60c and hotend on 200c. Then once the file finished uploading, I hit SD print and selected the file. Typically the gui stops updating while the console shows the bed temp and control input stream. Seems like pretty much nothing else works until the machine goes through this phase. So the hotend, it seemed, kept increasing in temp while the heatbed which was cooler than usual took a long time to heat up. The nozzle started to bubble and smoke.

It took me a few seconds to quickly abort the print, unplug the usb and flip the power switch. Once I got everything plugged in and connected again I was still reading 300c so I was surely over that temp for more than a few seconds.

I tried to search the forum but the link appeared to be dead. I apologize if this has been addressed. I also apologize for it being on an MKS. I just wanted to reach out if this is a real potential issue. I have a mini smoke detector on my machine and bought some for my friends so I agree that these machines can be risky to leave unattended.

Thanks in advance, Rob.
