Printed tires and super strong nylon rims.

Printed tires and super strong nylon rims.

Are you going to make a mold to make your own foam inserts or are you buying them of the shelf.

@Nigel_Dickinson I don´t use foam on these. I print them as a “solid” with 15% Infill to simulate foam instead.

@Daniel_Noree just wondered as different foams give different compression.
I’ll bear that in mind when I start printing mine up. Thanks

I’m not at the fine tuning level yet, right now I settle for “soft” tires…

Very nice. Soon I will also print tyres from ninjaflex. So 15% infill and support?

I just ordered my roll of ninjaflex, but they are out of stock so who knows when it will arrive. Very cool Daniel.

@Jan_Germann well it seems to vary… Last one I did was 10% infill and 3 perimiters I think it’s just a little too soft so maybe 15% is better. Haven’t tried it yet though.
I’m rushing to finishing my latest build as it will serve as a demo car I’m going to show of during a talk I’m doing on a 3D printing conference on Tuesday. Still lot’s of work left so the tires I have will do for now.

I just got my ninjaflex in today, even though they said it was back ordered. I am not complaining. What settings do you use to print it? I read that it prints well at about the same settings as the ABS. Also when you print your tires do you use any support material?

Also, about how long does it take to print one of the tires?

@Joshua_Updyke Ok, so i used “ABS Standard” in Makerware, set HBP to something like 40C and the extruder to 220C and speed 40mm/s.
I printed the tires with 3 perimiters at 10% infill but maybe it´s not enough. One need to consider that both perimiter and infill counts so more perimiters will make it harder aswell as increasing the infill. I want to see how the wear will be from actually driving the car and maybe we need to add perimiters to add strength to the tire.
Anyway lot´s of thoughts and the only way to find out is testing and i can´t do that just yet.

@Joshua_Updyke Hmm, not sure about the time… 6-8 hours?

Thanks. I am going out of town next week, but once I get back I will test out these settings and see how it turns out.
