Printing and designing a guitar. This is what I have done
What sort of things do you have to consider when designing a 3d printed guitar? Is it based on anything existing?
(I know nothing about guitar design.)
What material and what sort of glue are you using?
I don’t know much either, but I am curious how you approach the neck. Perhaps a mandolin would be a good intermediary step while you figure out how to have strength under tension.
My only real concern with this is that the strings put a lot of force on the neck. You’d need to figure out a way to keep it from flexing. Maybe design it so that you can insert a steel rod into it for some strength. You’ll have to use SOME metal parts anyway for things like the tuning knobs so why not reinforce it where it needs it? Same with where said tuning knobs and strings mount. If it’s not strong, those strings will rip it apart when you try to tune it. Go luck though! Should be a fun project and I’d love to see it finished. Talk about a super light guitar though. Normally they are pretty heave due to all of the wood.
The Hovalin project uses carbon fiber rods

Most guitars have a rod running through the neck for reinforcement.
