PrintrBot Simple aluminum extruder upgrade came. It’s a thing of beauty.
What does it do for you above and beyond the standard one? I haven’t noticed any problems with mine.
Nice, I happened to see it in use at the Printrbot table at the 3D Printer expo over the weekend. I wonder if it’ll act like a heat sink and I’d no longer need a fan blowing on the extruder. I was having jams from the motor running a bit hot and softening the filament.
I’ve been having lots of problems with the filament sliding out of the hobbed gear. The new extruder fixes that. It seems to just be smoother. The fan is now moved to the back and has a hood to direct air right at the hot end tip.
That is sex on a stick, regardless of whether it’s actually useful.
I wanna know where everyone’s getting all these springs!
Try running you Y-Axis to the full 100mm. I installed the same upgrade kit and ran into a clearance issue and have actually lost 10mm of travel on the Y-Axis. You can see my OP Here: https://plus.google.com/100523846823855839221/posts/5kiJdzGoTZL
It is pretty
Did you move the fan or do they ship with parts to attach the fan on the side ?
They shipped the kit with new parts toove the fan
@Mike_Miller , I got springs from Amazon, but if you’re lucky, you can get them from home depot our ace hardware. You can always buy exactly what you want from McMaster Carr, or if you have time and want to save some money, go aliexpress, but you’ll wait a month
We have an adapter plate you can print for a geared stepper that works great with the 3mm Ibis!
@Eric_Moy The problem is not knowing the spring constant…or is this one of those things where ‘if it’s the right size, it’ll work fine’…close your eyes and push ‘Buy it now’.
@Mike_Miller , you can use an extruder like airtripper’s that you can adjust a screw that compresses the spring
Oo, shiny!
The geared stepper and 3mm drive are in our store now!
No problem! It’s a great setup for both sizes. Simple, light and sturdy.
