Printrbot Tank is a fully 3D printable rc tank.

Printrbot Tank is a fully 3D printable rc tank. We will release the files tomorrow. Build your own! If you want a turn key metal version, or a bare bones metal Kit, we will sell those. But we are hoping you will print one!

You can print the treads on a Printrbot Plus but the body will need some slicing and dicing. I have used our beta Printrbot Big-E to print the body and treads for us. I used a Ubis 13S with a 1mm tip (.8mm layers). The body warped a bit so I finished it with bondo and paint to make it look better

If you print it, it’s a cheap project, but we are slapping a 50% margin on the metal version and selling it if you want one. This drives the cost up but we need incentive to justify the distraction from our main business.

It’s been a fun project. We hope you will fire up your design software and mod it to make some fun robots.

Looking forward to posting everything, giving details and checking the box “done”!

Warped a little  nice

^ slightly haha

I think I need to sell my pool table and get me a Big E haha. Nice work Brook I’m excited to print one out. When will the files be released??

@Griffin_Paquette Ironically my 2’x4’ build is on a ping pong table.

Sorry, pool table. But it has a ping pong table slab that goes on top of it.

Nice! Thanks for sharing the development process! R&d for the win!

You/re on. I’ve already told the owner of my favorite dining place about them and how they could help fill in for table delivery when he is short staffed.

@jinx_OI you may appreciate this one

I might machine one out of some of the aluminum I have here. I can print the drive train and tracks. Thanks @Brook_Drumm , I can’t wait.

So do you have an idea from the dev process which are the critical dimensions? Wheel spacing, width, idler spacing, anything else?

I just ordered Orange NinjaFlex for the tracks…booya!

I would think semi-flex would be the better choice for belts and tracks. It’s flexy without stretching.

Semi flex is used for the tracks.

Semi Flex? Ok, any special brand?

It’s made by the same company as ninjaflex.

Ordered…nice big reel of the black. Let’s see how it works on my printers.

Gonna make one right away. What build volume is required to print it in?

The current track printed in a circle requires a 10"x10" printer. It barely fits on a Plus. The body is too big so I will rely on the community to slice and dice or design a smaller one. The hubs and other parts will work on a play or simple.

@Brook_Drumm
Does the track need to be printed in a circle? I don’t know whether semiflex would get weird if you printed in some kind of repeated-S pattern…
