Prusa i3 enclosure prototype. Thoughts?

What? What? Gimme! Like 3 of them.
It looks cool. But… Why would you put an i3 in a full box frame when you could build an XY gantry Cartesian or Ultimaker or CoreXY bot and get better performance out of the same parts? Only good reason to build a Mendel-style bot is that they don’t need as much structure as an XY gantry bot (and thus are lower cost). Kind of defeating the point here
The reason is that I happen to have a bunch of working printers that would benefit and I don’t want to them apart.
Then that is an excellent enclosure indeed
Looking sharp.
It looks expensive. If you are enclosing your printer for a heated chamber your control electronics might not be happy at 50c.
Not bad at all, Just add some clear sides and front to keep the heat in. Just don’t have any sharp edges.
Looks like someone just built a Replicator 2 upside down
@Daniel_Kruger . Electronics have dedicated fan for cooling with ambient air from the rear, enclosure sits at about 40-50’C with only the print bed as a heater during print. We found this is ideal for ABS to maximise strength and minimise warping
@Thomas_Sanladerer Hahaha! We didn’t even think of that and just had a good laugh when we compared to the replicator!
Here’s some of our prototypes : https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipN_9gxpwYpKcBlYCqXA8-tkzJoJGc1ER9wMDxYAew2_jvsg1njPhOx_Y2Is_-6cVA?key=LTBsM21qMkc0OEwyWjk5WG1nZFNPQ0FuUGpGcWZ3
What do you think? Nice upgrade for the i3?
@Vaughan_Lundin A front door and removable side panels are part of the design, just not shown in this picture
@Charl_Jacobs Cool well done. Good to see you guys are finding ways to improve your printers. Need to look at adding some more types to your line. Excellent.
What would something like that cost? Or are you offering the plans for a total DIY experience?
@Samer_Najia This is our final prototype which we are super happy with. We aimed at making it a generic i3 enclosure in which i3’s can just bolt into. Pricing isn’t finalised yet, But should come in at R2500 ($160) excluding shipping. The first bulk order with manufacturers has just been placed. Keep in touch
Very reasonable. Shipping will be a beast though. Don’t suppose I could contract to have the parts cut locally (as in by @Clockwerk_Mech )… In any event, what would U.S. Shipping run, or have you gotten that far yet?
