Prusa i3 MK2S :: Take 2

ZPlate:

Take 2?

Yeah, disassembled it to the bones because I was having all kind of dimmensional issues and I wanted to start clean (ish).

Well, I’ve got the parts for the Mk2S upgrade that I need to install, but that’s going to take more time than I have available in the near term, since that’s going to be a full disassemble and reassemble.

Florian Ford, will you be able to sand down your desktop to make it planar? Just kidding, but is a wood desktop a solid reference for such a small deviation? One would want a machinist surface (granite) or a mirror glass panel to make certain that it’s a good reference rather than a bad part.

Yes I know but it was just an easy test as I tore down the printer, don’t put much emphasys on it. I also leaned it flat against a window and its the same but even if it’s bent like that I think it’s too little to matter.

@Florian_Ford I think you’re spot on with that point of view. Such a small variation over the entire rectangle should not appear in prints.

I recall nophead suggesting that the frame assembly for his Mendel90 be done on a kitchen worktop.

It certainly was good advice. I did it on mine and never had any layer issues.

The kitchen worktop in the apartment I live in has a laminated particleboard countertop (as most are in europe) and between that 3.5cm thick and this 2.5cm one I dunno which is more planar. Both are industrially made. Maybe a thick mirror could be a good option too, if one doesn’t care about risking scratches or even breaking it.
