Next up: tidy wiring and wire heated bed, calibrate, calibrate and then calibrate.

Contgrats! Is it from a kit or you made it part by part according to many prusa recipes?

I’ve been building this one a year! The parts are from all different branches and some of my own.

Have you ever had an i2 Mendel? How do you think this one compares to an i2 in ease of build and print quality?

Also you don’t do springs on the platform?

There is a hybrid prusa i2 in the background of one of the images. The prusa i2 prints beautifully as I have been improving it for 2 years. The i3 has only done half a print so it’s hard to compare.

No, there are no springs on the build plate. I’ve not used springs for over a year and a half.

How about building it. Easier? I’m thinking of converting my i2

@Michael_Spano_Jr_Ama as someone who converted their Prusa Mendel to an i3 – DO IT! Build is WAY easier, way better as far as calibration concerns, just overall a great build. And you can use exactly the same smooth rods as your Mendel currently uses, just modify for the lengths slightly. You’ll end up getting a machine that works tons better, has double the Z height available to it, and is much easier to maintain.

Springs are a no-no; they allow the platform to move, shake, and shift. With the i3 build there’s almost no leveling required; everything is naturally at 90 degree angles.
