BTW, how are people getting on with their One or Two-ups? So far I’ve heard that basic QC is an issue (missing parts, wrong parts) and that the steppers used are odd sized surplus motors.
Anyone with printing results?
What is the quality of the electronics and extruder / hot-end? Could I take the brains & guts and bolt them to a better / bigger frame that I design/build myself?
There definitely were a number of QC issues. The motors seem close enough to other NEMA 17’s, though there were some people reporting slightly odd-shaped motor bodies.
The print shows signs of mechanical noise. The light MDF platform doesn’t dampen the vibration well. But I think I got a decent bag of parts for my $200. I wrote up my experiences at http://toybuilderlabs.com/blog/?tag=one+up
The name change is weird. Identity changes are usually to shorten the name (International Business Machines, Federal Express, United Parcel Service, United Nations Children’s Fund, Ingvar Kamprad Elmtaryd Agunnaryd, …)
Thanks @Joseph_Chiu - I’ve followed your blog as well as the comments made by @Rojer_Wisner and @Louise_Hughes one their x-Ups. That’s 3 people - hopefully there are others as well!?!
Since I always want to type >30 characters to visit a store. Also it is easier to spell qu-bd, I would be fine with. A hard redirect on the long domain for the .5% of people that can’t find their page as is, but changing the name from an abbreviation would be a nightmare
I saw that. As for their one and two-up printers, I am very interested in hearing from those with experience. So far, about all I’ve read are the QC issues. For $200-$300, it’s almost worth buying one to find out.
@Tim_Elmore i understand that, in the same regard printrbot/makerbot get confused by some people (honestly it happens more then you would think). This would be a complete re-brand, so all of the press that they have had will no longer be relevant. All links on all web pages will be broken. The would be better off pushing through under their current name, founding a second company, relaunch the company with a new product.
I am still waiting for a part to correct the z axis misalignment (they sent the wrong replacement part). I have a work around set up and have assembled the printer but not put the electronics together yet. Family illness has taken priority.
