Question about WS2801, or if anyone has another suggestion. I recently got new front windows which have recessed molding. The old windows allowed me to put WS2812 strips along the edge where the molding met the glass, and you could see the lights neatly from both inside and outside. It worked great and looked great. I had 4 independent strips running, originally on a Teensy 3.1, and then I moved to a photon. Worked great. I have an old post with the view if anyone wants to find it.
Now however, I need to use some 3d printed clips to get the lights so you can see them in the window both inside and outside. The problem is, I can’t find an angle that allows a good view for both inside and outside, and the strip is mostly visible as well.
I’d like to use the older WS2801 strands which solve some problems for me. I can mount them using smaller clips, so the clips/wires aren’t visible outside, but the bulb will extend far enough to be visible outside. Our translucent curtains help me inside. What I don’t know though, can I use the same Photon/Teensy to do this? There are lots of examples of multiple strands, but not for the 2801, so I before I buy a bunch more strips, I’d like to know if this is possible with the choices I am making.
Or, does anyone know a good SPI or 2812 protocl strand which has somewhat of a raised/bump profile I can use? I’m not building this from scratch with individual LED’s, as that would take far too much work.
Thanks.
