Question: Those of you who print a raft: How do you clean up the surface post print? That is, how you cleanly remove the raft deal with the resulting scarring on the surface?

I’ m removing it with my finger nails. Works well when the layer isn’t squished. After that I use a scissor or a sharp knife in a 90° angle scratching the fine irregularitys away.

I increase the Z gap until the raft peels off in one piece.

@Whosa_whatsis same here. Never had it separate mid print but they shouldn’t be too hard to peel off with a tough hand pull

Grrr. House of cards is crumbling
Am printing directly onto acrylic. It generally works ok, but right now I’m printing a 36x89 x 11mm high box and it’s peeling like crazy! Even with a raft 7.5mm out in all directions.

(I’m wondering if adding a drop of olive oil to the dust filter is what is causing it to not stick???)

I just downloaded KISSlicer 1.5 (was running 1.4) to get the Z Gap setting @Whosa_whatsis talked about. Am trying again…

@Whosa_whatsis When the Z gap is increased, the bottom layer of the print is not coming properly (not looking complete solid). What is the ideal Z gap?

Particularly with PLA, the bottom layer has to be a bit gappy to avoid permanently adhering to the raft. That reduced contact area is what makes it separate there rather than breaking the raft apart. You can reduce the effect a bit by reducing the height of the first layer of your object (the one printed on top of the raft).
