Quick Q: Anyone have their KISSlicer, or any slicer, be attacked and quarantined by Avast when you open the program?

That just happened to me. I tried to ‘restore’ it but it didn’t work.
I had to d/l the new one and install and so far, so good.
I was just using this program the other day. Don’t know why
it pissed Avast off.

I had similair problems with adaware (antispyware). It sees some components of my solidworks install as virusses and quarantine’s them. Then I have the option to delete or repair them. I don’t want either!

Avast is garbage anyways. If you’re on windows, really the best security software to use is Microsoft Security Essentials. Microsoft bought an antivirus/antimalware company years ago, and turned it into MSE. It’s quite possibly the lowest resource usage, most comprehensive antivirus/antimalware solution available.

@ThantiK I’ll have to check that out.

Since it’s from microsoft you’ll probably have to pay ridiculous amounts of money for it…

@Mano_Biletsky_Open_M it’s free. Has been free since its first release. Ask any IT professional or PC repair guy, and they’ll tell you MSE is the best there is. Microsoft has API hooks that other vendors don’t have access to. MSE also feeds back data from everyone who has it installed, making it one of the widest install bases out there.

I use Kisslicer and Avast and had the same problem start yesterday. I then wasted an hour trying to get the program running again, instead of slicing a model I wanted to print.
In the end, the only thing that worked for me was to use the ‘Disable shields for next 10 minutes’ option which allows the program to start up normally.
I’ll have to look into MSE as an alternative.

Now I’m finding Avast is a pain to get rid of.

Somehow an antivirus made by Microsoft doesn’t inspire me confidence. When I was using Windows at home I made a extensive review of many antivirus software (by trying them out a full month each). I was looking for best security vs. lowest memory usage. I put aside the free ones. I chose ESET Security Suite, which includes NOD32, considered at the time as one of the best antivirus software. Though it’s been years since then, I guess things can change fast in this field.

So what programs do you guys use to get rid of stubbern programs like Avast?

@Jim_Squirrel yeah I saw that after I did the above. I’ll keep that in mind if my fixx doesn’t work.

Doh! I found an Avast setting under troubleshooting that makes it uninstallable.
