Quiet cut spindle… Wow… I should have made the upgrade immediately!
I totally agree! It’s really amazing how quite it really is!
Best upgrade I have made so far.
@Marc_Schaefermeyer Any advantage other than it’s quiet? Newbie here (just got my SO3)
@Andrew_Spurgeon it’s all in what you compare it to…
DW660 is super powerful but super loud.
Generic spindle is loud and not as powerful as the quite cut.
Quite cut is more powerful than the generic spindle and super quite.
Too bad you didn’t have anyone talking or anything for a volume comparison.
Here’s a video I made comparing the three spindles sound.
The noise reduction is so substantial that it makes up for any performance loss over an AC driven spindle. Except for a few situations the quiet cut will do the job. I have yet to need to go back to the Dewalt.
The thing I noticed which is just as good as the noise reduction is the power actually means that the wood chips properly rather than in some cases with the stock dremel knock off, the end mill would just grind at the wood and spit up dust. I always had to clean the polycarb door to my enclosure after every job. no need to clean it until like 10 jobs later!
Went for 400 watt one, got it from eBay with a power supply . nah I’m not using pwm. I’m using the little pot thatvcame with the kit. For on and off I have a powerful key switch. I noticed that you can’t turn the spindle straight on at full power it trips the PSU…
@Kevin_Barry I have the 300 watt one with the speed controller and relay for on/off control via the M03/M05 commands.
What is the software shown in the 1st few seconds on the video? I’m trying to figure what software to use with new SO3, MakerCam is OK but basic
Oh that was just my universal G-code sender
