Recently lost 2 prints because the filament was wound on the spool in such a way that it got caught and stopped unwinding. Has anyone else had a problem like this?
It’s fairly common.
There’s a printable filament guide on one of the sites, it clips on to the spool and the filament is fed through it, it means that the filament can’t unspool because it’s position is fixed.
Give that a try.
Thanks for the suggestions I will give that a try. I thought I was controlling the filament end but perhaps I was careless. Always something to learn I guess.
In my experience it is also possible for the filament to come tangled from the manufacturer. I have had several reels of filament that tangled partway through a print when there was no way that my handling had anything to do with it.
The way it’s put on the spool means it’s super unlikely if not impossible to tangle without outside influences. Every time this has happened to me it’s been after swapping a roll out, and about an hour into the first print out needs to be wound out then neatly back on then it’s fine
Immediately before threading filament into the printer, I remove all loose coils and carefully roll them back onto the spool to be sure there are no tangles. This has been working well for me.
I used to have this problem all the time. Generally there is a coil that is wrapped around the rest. Just loosen some of the filament and pull through where it is catching and tu should be good.
