Reducing backlash on Z axis with bed mesh leveling (BILINEAR).
I thought I would take a look at the backlash in the Z axis now I’m using Bed mesh leveling , as the leveling feature only moves the z axis a small about to compensate for the warp/twist etc , i got to thinking is the bed actuality moving.
I’m currently using T8 4S Acme threaded rods and brass T nuts .
To test the backlash i used a dial indicator with a resolution of 0.001mm fixed to the 4040 frame which my printer is built around, no bed fitted and the dial indicator point placed as near to the Brass nut location. To test the back lash send Z +1mm then .01 measure the difference . i also tried z-1mm and also z+/ 0.2mm and then 0.1mm in the opposite direction but results the same .
I took 10 measurements with the brass T Nut and averaged those .
0.066mm
Swapped to Brass Anti backlash version ( the one with the spring between two nuts) and took a further 10 measurements and averaged those .
0.047mm
has any one done a similar test with the Ball race version of the Acme Nut?
