Renzo a friend of mine and I are what our wifes call “insane people” and when you get over 50 the things go worst. We both like rc planes but in winter time the daylight is so short… and flying in the darkness is no possible. So first whe have mounted some leds on our airplanes (easy) and then we decided to have the lights on our runway with more than a simple white light (more difficoult) . After a lot of cabling here we go. We bought 150 pixels ( 30 mm pixel module), 400 meters of 3x1,5 mm2 cable, a lot of waterproof connections and connected a led module every 2 meters. (I think we got the longest and heaviest strip ever made). The strip goes around the runway in both sides and one end. It works great. We can fly in night time safely with no problems now.

Brilliant (and crazy) idea, beautifully executed!
Any lessons learned?
Wow amazing scale. What an awesome addition to the air field!
That was quite the landing. I’d love to put some LED’s in a helium balloon and let 'er go.
+Mark Kriegsma Yes , working with 12 volts pixel is much easer than 5 volts to get long distance. We supply power to both end of the strip and the pixels work pretty good in the middle of the strip (150 meters). At the max power and full white we have a drop of 3 volts in the middle, but we don’t use the max power because of the leds looks very bright even at sunset.
@Andrew_Tuline Good idea! Thing to try
Wow. The remote-controlled-camera-bearing skydiver was truly inspired. And yes, sometimes we do crazy things after we pass 50.
Crazy and cool!
