Running into my first issue with the all metal parts from eBay.

Running into my first issue with the all metal parts from eBay. The dog bones or one of the couplings is about 1mm too long. The bottom mounting holes for the back end differential don’t line up.

Strangely. The same differential and dog bone works perfectly mounted in the front.

Ordering new 84mm dogbones from eBay store. For whatever reason the 80mm I originally ordered are actually 87mm.

Me again just talking to myself (since it seems no one else in here is alive). Mocking up the front end with the CVC joints from eBay store. Custom 70mm turnbuckle is a little too short (pic one) and the stock 74 is a little long (feels like dogbone may pop out). Guess I’ll have to custom create a 72mm.

74mm turnbuckle

Found two other wishbones which are a bit shorter than the stock ones, going to give those a go. zzz…

FYI: I wouldn’t suggest the shocks from the eBay store, they are NOT oil filled, very low quality. Looking for new source for oil filled shocks.

Yeah those cheap shocks are nasty but get you on the road. You’re ahead of me now. I’ve been too busy with my peon230 quad to do anything with the car. I’ve got 2 diffs for front and rear to go in but haven’t printed anything yet. Not to mention i want a metal centre diff and to do it all at the same time.

This weekend I printed out the “production” front wishbones and new front differential casing. Just need to install everything and the front should be good. Also tested the “D” adapter hubs and some tires from a traxxas truck I have, they should all work. Will post some more pix and progress soon.

Got most of the front end finished in PETg. Still need to find some spacer for the top of the shocks.

Having some more issues. The stock steering assembly is running into the front differential casing. Also I can’t secure the steering assembly from the bottom as the pivot shafts just spin. Hmmmm

@Kevin_Wojcik you could try attaching the steering rods directly to the lever. Actually that wouldn’t work. It looks like the hole in the chassis is too close to the diff casing. Maybe you could just drill new holes a few mm further from the diff.

@Nate_T It is off just a few mm, i’m not sure I could drill holes far enough away from the existing ones to get a solid connection. @Aron_Horst was going to look to see if he could find the shorter steering arms he remixed. If they don’t exist anywhere, I’ll give an attempt at modeling some. tnx guys!

Tinkercad to the rescue. Imported the parts and nipped off the tips and moved the holes back 2-3mm. Seems to be clearing the differential case now. Also discovered PETG steering parts were very weak, reprinted in PLA. Electronics now on order.

Coming along…

  • Had to order a different pinion gear, the 18T someone recommended was way too small, going back to the 14T.
  • The wheels and differentials feel a bit loose, there is more play than I would like, but I’m not familiar with this type of setup, so it may be normal.
  • The steering seems like it will be a bit “slow” as the wheels don’t turn as much as I want.

To Do:

  • Would like some type of rear bumper.
  • Looking for something to secure the 2S battery.
  • Wire everything up.

New rear bumper.
Will post any custom parts here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2237857

Got the MOD 1 gear and 5mm to 3mm sleeve in. Wow the clearance is very small. Had to actually install the gear through the motor mount. Everything barely fits. Still need a couple washers before I can close it up. Should all work though.

Ok so the motor is working but the CV joints I got are less than stellar. Driving around my living room one of them decided to explode.

Ordered new CV from BangGood but they are too large. There goes another $20 down the drain :frowning: have to place another order to Hobbyking and try another set. Sigh… this is so painful!

Just to close this thread out. The CV was fine. Just needed a new grub screw. Finally had the car put all together and took it out this afternoon for part of a battery. It works! Surely room for some tweaks but happy overall. Thanks Daniel!
