Savage Translum Diffusion: Things found in a professional photographers goody bag.

Savage Translum Diffusion: Things found in a professional photographers goody bag.

My father is a well versed photographer, hence why I have a crappy camera. The other day, I asked if he had some diffusion materials for my new matrix. He pulled out a piece of Translum: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/46170-REG/Savage_55418_Translum_Diffusion.html

Here are the results. The richness of color is unbelievable in person, and the material is not that expensive after all. I have it sitting about an inch from the LEDs right now, and you can barely make out the individual light sources. It makes the Noise sketch look like liquid.

I actually have a bit of extra material. If anyone is interested in getting a sample, message me privately.

Wow. Very impressive effect!

How much space was there between the leds and the diffusion material in this video?

Approx. 1" above the WS2812’s. Any closer, I could see the individual pixels too much.

Very cool. I have some diffuser material that I’ve pulled out of drug-store holiday lights and I’m sort of interested in finding more of it – it’s very sparkly. And this material that you’ve got looks just the opposite: very smooth! Looks great.

Dan and I have discussed it a number of times and concluded that an awesome diffuser is only half the battle; the other half is “distance”. You have to have a certain minimum distance between the LEDs and the diffuser to get maximum effect. If this video shows what 1" looks like, this is great stuff.

Want have!!! Ordered.
