SD fail? New controller came in,

SD fail?

New controller came in, I’m re-applying all of the little tweaks I’d made to the old one before it went poof. Got to the point where I wanted to perform a phantom print and…it detects SD card insertion, but doesn’t show anything in the picklist.

Thinking (unhappily) that the smoke containment event might have taken out the SD card reader on the external display (or the SD card) I swapped both for different components, ensured SD card support was in configuration.h, added auto0.g to a sample card and still no joy…

(What’s the proper orientation of the SD card reader daughterboard? I tried both ways with no luck…thinking if orientation was critical, it’d be better labelled,)

Brought up Pronterface and while the system is responding, I’m getting periodic ‘error: SD init fail’ messages.

Also: Is pronterface braindead? Meaning: it moves the actuators, but it looks like it’s in Cartesian, rather than Delta actuation mode.

I am having the same issues with my sd card when I formatted it so I think there are some specifics with the formatting. Are you formatting it in windows? I remember that worked better than OS X and I think fat 16 is the right format.

I have access to both at home, man I hope that’s it, because tethering to a PC would be a major bummer.

I know some people had issues with cards larger than 2 gb because arduino doesn’t know how to access large partitions. Formatting it as fat 16 is a way around that for some. Did the SD card come with Rumba or was it one that you had lying around?

Both, I had another 512mb card I tested with, I’ll more carefully test this evening with enabled firmware and cards partitioned and formatted on a win 7 box.

Cool, if you find a procedure that works definitely let us know! I am not sure if it is helpful but this is a post I worked through once that discussed formatting schemes: http://forums.reprap.org/read.php?219,130543,142165#msg-142165
