Seems some days you lose, and some you win, today using the cloud based netFABB and it just works magic (@_@)!! Had a file that Cura would slice but not Slic3r … so frustrating. But, I’m happy now so thanks Microsoft and netFABB.

Haha, yep and it fixed them,

sketchup make aint bad I used it for a while, you can get a lot of errors if you don’t clean up the model and remove unwanted internal structures!, solid inspector2 help a lot with that, and netfabb generally sorts out the rest.

Seems like he just hates sketchup for use with models that will be 3D printed. Logic is hard though…

Great. But what’s that got to do with the price of tea in China? Mark made it clear he hates sketchup for generating 3D printable models. That’s it. He stated reasons for his feeling. I don’t care what people use.

If you want to use sketchup and run it through another program to repair the mesh, then have at it.

The point @Mark_Rehorst was making was very simple, but was clearly lost on you.

All other things being equal - Sketchup is worse than other CAD programs that don’t require you to repair the mesh by running it through a different program.

An implicit premise is that Sketchup doesn’t do anything particularly unique or special that justifies using it over programs that produce clean mesh.

That’s not a personal attack. Use Sketchup. Make awesome stuff in Sketchup and then print it. Just be aware that there are other programs out there…

sigh…keep fighting the good fight. I’d ask why you care, but I don’t. Hopefully Sketchup pays you well.

Who knew that SketchUp is a hot topic, but netFABB also fixed Thingiverse .stl files. So if anyone is having problems check it out no down load required.

Mark Rehorst, I appreciate people being honest about their experiences with any 3d printing subject. I have a love hate relationship with SketchUp, but it is a program that I have and know how to use. I would love another program but, I am a noob to 3d printing and I don’t have the time to learn another one, ATM.
But would love to hear suggestions for a similar modeling program, especially one that functions like SketchUp.
