I am trying to configure levelling with my bltouch. I can run my bltouch through all them tests with the m280 commands. When I try any levelling command the probe tip does not extend by itself and the hotend crashes into the bed. Is there a setting i am missing or is this by design?

You need to actually send the M280 commands yourself before sending the probing commands yes.
Ok, thanks for the clarification. I have recently switched to smoothieware from marlin on the corexy I am building and I have to say that this is a far superior system for tweaking your firmware settings. Thank you for making this. I appreciate it.
