Setting up to run in inches instead of mm

My SmoothieBoard is on the way and I’m trying to understand how to configure it for my three axis CNC mill. I am reading the CNC Mill Guide which is very well written. I’m understanding most of what’s there.

The problem I have is how to set up Smoothie for English inch units. For instance there is the parameter alpha_steps_per_mm. Is there a alpha_steps_per_in for inches? If not do I put the steps/inch in this field and when Smoothie gets a G20 it will just use the alpha_steps_per_mm field value but expect it to be steps per inch? Or does this value need to be converted from steps/inch to steps/mm?

This has me very confused. If there are other metric fields are there english inch versions of the field or conversions necessary?

Hey.

You need to do all of the configuration in millimeters, you’ll need to convert your values before giving them to Smoothie.

Then when using the board, giving inch values is fine if you put it into inch mode.
