Shai Schechter Deltaprintr hotend. Ran into the mounting issue.

@Shai_Schechter @Deltaprintr hotend. Ran into the mounting issue. Since I’m in the process of testing my FSR mounted designs I had to tighten and unscrew the M3 screw repeatedly. in doing so, it has become loose… I suspect the aluminum mount is not thick enough to have proper number of thread in there. perhaps this is something worth looking into if you ever want to make version 2. oh and also the side fan screw in a bit too deep and it appear to hit the end of M3 screw causing it to skew a bit…

I mentioned this as well, the aluminum at 1.3mm is not even close to enough material. Wish they would even communicate about it, total silence to the email. Feel bad and a bit guilty I recommended it to people, going to have to change those statements. I can drill and tap a new hole, not sure everyone can and its not something anyone should have to do for a hotend at that price point.

so I’m not alone then… did you drill and tap the fin below?

something similar happened to me on my simple metal. I was tightening the clasp around the hotend, but I had to tighten it more than usual b/c I installed the e3d v6 and it only had 3mm to grip on it. so anyways I ended up striping the entire thread out of the aluminum stepper motor and had to get replacement. moral of the story, don’t over tighten aluminum.

@Nathan_Walkner oh wow…thats a great idea, i should’ve thought of that

You can always put a helicoil and they make the M3 size. You would likely never stripped that out

@Nathan_Walkner yes except it wouldn’t solve the fact that the aluminum fin is too thin to provide proper internal surface tapping…

I was thinking the helicoid could span a couple fins or more

@AlohaMilton We haven’t had any reports of the hole stripping for users. Did you send us an email?

The top is 1.5mm thick, but we are working on a re-design of the hotend, so I will make sure we take this into consideration.

@Shai_Schechter I did email, I asked about if you had a recommended tap and screw size to replace about 2 weeks ago. I am sure you guys will have a more robust thread for V2 now that you know about it so I will not change the recommendation just add a warning. I guess the email is messed up, didn’t get a bounce back or anything, it seemed to go through.

One other thing, the heater core wires are a bit short, everything must be done below the effector and there is no room for messing up and stripping more wire, that puts the crimp in the airflow. Just a little more wire would be nice. Still, very awesome hotend in many ways I do love it. Just can’t overwhelmingly recommend it for the less equipped 3der (having the right taps and drill and such).

I am using it with one screw tight the other just sort of preventing pivoting as its stripped, still getting .025 or less deviation on auto-calibration so I am sort of postponing the fix until I finish the current prototyping/printed manufacturing job.

OMFG its Thursday…samples delivered by Tuesday? Which means shipped by Saturday? Aaahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!
