Since my 400W spindle that I received as part of my SMW3d kit appears to have died (less than a few hours of work time), I am looking to get feedback on what my replacement should be. I plan to cut wood, plastics and aluminum up to 1/4 inch (6061). What would you suggest for my next spindle?
How about the Nomad spindle by carbide 3D. It looks like they have a great spindle I just don’t know if you can order it separate from the CNC Kit I don’t see it available as a separate item for purchase but maybe if you contact them they would sell it? Worth a call.
Did the spindle die? Or did the power supply die? The spindle itself is really quite simple, just a brushed DC motor.
@dhylands Spindle I think. Power supply checks out fine. Spindle does not start when power is applied directly from the power supply. It will start if I then give it an assisted start with my hand, but, the rpm rate seems low and inconsistent.
@Matt_Herrera Interesting design with the spindle driven via a belt.
I would try returning the spindle unless you think you did something unrealistic with it
I use a chinese 1.5KW spindle, with the external speed controller. It’s big and heavy, but I don’t think I’ll be short of power for a while
@Michel_Pollet How do you end up mounting this? Custom brackets?
@Cedrick_Gousse yes, printed; check my timeline, I’ve posted the source/stl etc for it. Been working like that ever since…
