Hello,
I recently got a Raspberry Pi 3 and I want to be able to control my 3D printer remotely. But there is a problem. How do I connect Raspberry Pi and Smoothieboard? Unfortunately, I can’t post schematics of it (low karma or something…). Basically, I want to connect Smoothie and Raspberry through a network switch. This switch will be obviously also connected to the internet router. Is something like this possible? And I want to use Ethernet cable because they usually offer better shielding against electrical noise -> better reliability.
Best Regards,
Adam.

The most typical ( and best ) way to get a smoothieboard and raspi to work together is to use a very short ( <10cm and therefore immune to EMI ) USB cable between them.
If you really want to use Network ( which is less convenient ), you will likely need a router. That is not really a Smoothie question though, just a general networking question.
I have a home network and use it to connect to my printer. I have an old laptop running Windows XP next to the printer, that I use when I am in the garage where it is located. If I want to see what it is doing from my office, I use a network camera. If I want to download files, or start a print, I can do it from anywhere on the network. I have been exploring using a Pi as well, and in my case it would replace the old laptop by the printer. You can run Ponterface or Repeiter Host.
