So, another Celtic skull failure, but for different reasons…about 4:30 in, the drive gear on the Bowden starts to skip. I halted the print as I can’t really print out new gears on a dead printer (and didn’t want to lean on the charity of the group unless necessary.)

This was Makerbot PLA at 230 degrees. I suspect it’s a little hard to extrude as the JustPLA I’m using to attempt making gears (at 190), isn’t causing things to skip at all.

Whether or not I can make a 65mm gear, on the other hand…well…off into uncharted territory I go…

Aw >_< I’ve had that feeling before… The small gear but trap has crapped itself?

That’s what happened to mine, was able to slow things down a LOT and print a gear with glue holding the gear /nut trap together… Gears are hard to get right first shot though :-/

I’d offer u a print but I’m out of service right now myself AND my current machine is only just bearable for gears… Of course if you have trouble and no other offers I’m more than happy to give it a good shot

Appreciate that! I switches material and while I’ve had two failed prints, I’m pretty sure I’ll get useable parts in time.

keep at it  I found slow and cool produced a usable (albeit weak-ish) gear… good enough to print a nicer one in ABS… Not sure if you’ll have similar luck!

ABS will be quite the trick with no heated bed. I have a spool, and I had one print stick once using blue tape and superglue.

I haven’t tried it, but I have read that double-sided tape on a cold bed works with ABS.

Point me to an STL of what you need and I’ll do it up for you.

Thanks @William_Frick , give me another day or two of pounding my head against it and I may take you up on it…it’s not ratcheting with non-makerbot/shorter prints, so I may be alright…honestly, getting dimensional scaling correct has been on the list of things to do, but ‘a pile of spares’ is something that should be a priority.

Send me the files anyway. PM for address. Who new a Celt had such a hard skull ? Let’s hope yours holds up !
