Holy shit that is a LOT of waste plastic.

@ThantiK any single-nozzle multi-material system is going to have to purge a lot.

Typically what you try to do is print multiples of the actual print… you purge once per layer so a tall, thin single print like this has a high waste ratio. There’s a lot less purging if you do four of something short, for example.

Looking at the purge block, there is a lot of area where the color isn’t transitioning… it could definitely be way smaller

I’m sure as the firmware gets better and the calibration gets tighter, there will be less and less waste plastic.

@ThantiK yes it is. I was very surprised how much. I’ll continue to tune it so it wastes less.

@Ryan_Carlyle yes this is an example of 3d printing where it’s better to make more of something to have less waste

@Ryan_Carlyle I think this is why multi nozzle systems have an advantage.

By the way, PTFE-lined hot ends (all the way to the nozzle tip) have much sharper color transitions.
