So I converted my Prusa I2 over to a Bowden extruder setup and I’m trying to re-calibrate the extruder. My questions is how much should I start out with increasing the retraction. It was set in Kisslicer at 1.25 for the suck and 1.25 for the prime which brings me to my second question…do I need to adjust the prime as well?
Another thing that I’m noticing is that the nozzle seems to be dragging thru the layers. I’m not sure if that is due to the prime/suck or if it is another setting I’m missing.
I use about 4mm worth of retraction at 50mm/s speed. Mine is direct-drive though (no use of a geared system) so it can obtain those speeds easily, and also probably has a much shorter length tube (mine uses about 1 1/2 ft). The 4:1 geared extruder your using might not be able to obtain those speeds easily. And yeah, you’re probably getting drag because retraction as it’s currently set only barely relieves pressure instead of actually sucking back the filament, so you’ll be overdepositing.
I actually have priming higher than retract because my extruder chews up the filament so much that after retract, it takes More prime to get filament back to the nozzle. I’m still working it out though. Currently using values between 5 and 6 but still setting string so will increase
