So I have this blower fan that I want to install in place of the standard fan on my Printrbot simple metal. It’s quite a bit bigger than the recommended blower but it’s what I’ve got and I prefer to recycle. I’m planning on running a funnel out of it, into a flexible tube and that will then mount in the place of the standard fan. The blower will be mounted somewhere convenient, I still need to decide where.

My question is, this fan is a 12v, 2.65A, will I be able to run this through the printrboard? I have a 5A ATX power supply for my heated bed so it should be able to handle it or…should I just run a separate power supply on it? This way I can at least vary the voltage if the fan is too strong.

The fet for the fan on the printrboard can’t handle a whole lot. It can overheat easily as it’s best with < 1A.

Thought as much. I’ll run it separately then and see what the results are

Also, if you can keep you ducting at a fairly large size until the last moment (where it goes into some kind of vaguely toroidal fixture to distribute air around the hot end) you will be doing much better in the way of losses. (If you want to be really fancy, you’ll get a big mosfet so that you can control the blower through the printrboard fan line.)

Tbh I think I’m going to need to slow the fan down quite a bit, I think it’ll be way too much for my needs

pwm from the printrboard to control speed. Looks like that one does speed monitor too (blue wire).

hey friend. Are you manufacture of 3d printer. We are manufacture of cooling fan in China. May i help you? My email ID: market@dongruida.com

I got one 3 times bigger, with 2 ribbed hoses blowing at my nozzles  works great, too great in fact, had to get Creative insulating my heater block
