So i recently decided to give Sli3er a try but it freezes up everytime after it slices. Any tips?
I think that was one of the reasons I switch to Simplify3D. Perhaps try downloading Cura or another Slicer to see if the model will slice.
Is your model highly detailed? Perhaps you can eliminate some of the complexity (number of facets) in Meshmixer.
Have you run it through Netfabb (?) to ensure the model is water tight? Perhaps a hole in the model is breaking Slic3r?
How long does it “freeze”? Slic3r processes in the background so changing parameters makes it start over. And writing the gcode seems to pause, probably when it begins writing to HD.
I switched to Slic3r from Cura and haven’t looked back.
I still use slic3r, but I turned off the background processing in the preferences ever since the latest release because it was so prone to crashing on my laptop. Rarely have a problem if I just let it do it’s thing when I hit the button instead of trying to do it on the fly in the background.
Im just printing NFL team logos. It works fine when I use Cura, but I wanted to see how Slic3r compared. Only problem with Cura is the logos print so thin
What’s you OS? I had nothing but problems on my mac, but my PC has had zero issues.
Windows 10, but did the same on windows 7. Its running on a pretty old laptop though so likely a hardware issue.
Note, my mac was ‘pretty old’ as well. I’ve had no issue on a ‘modern’ win10 machine. Not that it helps you any, but maybe it’s a common thread.
I have a more modern comp. That one is just the closest so it is what i use the most. To help prevent lockups, load objects slowly, turn off background processesing, and whatever you do dont change any setting or move the object while it is slicing a file.
