So I’m about to start getting electronics in for my Smartrap and I have been thinking about putting on a heated bed.

But I have a few questions:

1)is there any benefit of having a heated bed if I’m going to almost always print pla if not always?

  1. will the heated bed ever get to such a. Temperature that my 3d printed parts for the smartrap start to deform?

Thanks in advance! I always love to get advice from the community!

A heated bed is not strictly necessary for PLA but does come in handy if you want to print wide and tall objects without warpage.

I have printed both ways. With a heated bed and without and both can be fine. On my Smartrap/Barkadabot i use a glue stick with no heated bed.

If you have the option add it. You can print with the heat turned off but you can’t print with heat if you don’t have the bed. My experience is that long pieces (like the iphone case) in PLA warp off the bed if you don’t have a bit of heat (I use 60C)

Sounds like I’ll just add it for the advantage of long prints. I intend on making some longer parts so I’m guessing it will be beneficial. Thank you all

I print with pla only and have my heatbed set at a warm 48’c its not hot at all but i find it stops pla from warping especially with longer rectangular prints ( length not time ) the added benefit is that while warm its sticks and when the bed cools the part comes off without any trouble
