So, is it normal for a brand new reel of LPD8806s to light up full white when VCC and GND are first applied (signal lines aren’t attached yet, or haven’t been initialized by the controller yet.)? Or perhaps also after it’s ben sitting unused for a while?
LPD8806’s appear to “remember” their last value that they were set to, annoyingly enough.
Ooooh that sucks. They also seem to reset or default to full on white when first powered up if they haven’t been used for a while.
At least that’s what I noticed last night when paying with a new reel. It came on full white, full brightness as soon as I powered it up, before the controller kicked in. I tested 16 pieces of LPD8806 this weekend, all remembered their settings for about 30sec, then “forgot” and came on all BLACK when freshly powered up.
That’s what my WS2801 strips do. The new LPD8806s strip I just got comes on white … at full brightness. I had 192 of them laying infront of me when I plugged them in. That was like looking straight into a 100W spotlight. If not higher …
