So last year after attending EDC In Las Vegas,

So last year after attending EDC In Las Vegas, I decided I wanted An Owl Hat with glowing eyes. I shopped online but could not find what I wanted, so I decided to make a hat. This lead me down the Maker path and working with micro controllers and LEDs.

Here’s what I created! The wings are made of 6 strands of LEDs, all wired to individual pins so I can control them individually. An Adafruit Bluefruit feather controls these. The face is an El Panel and the eyes are two TFT screens controlled by a Teensy 3.2 controller.

I’m really happy with how this turned out but couldn’t have done it without the help of this community, especially @marmil help.

Next step is to program the bluetooth connection to allow me to choose a color on my phone and have it displayed in the feathers. There’s always something to improve upon!

Cheers!

Looks great! Love the mixed technologies!

nice, here to seeing you out there.

Wonderful and weird- I want one! The color changing is pretty easy with the Bluefruit app

Outstanding!

A perfect balance of silly and cool!

Fabulous Tim, love it! All the better that you took the Maker path and created your own personal wonderfulness.

The eyes are really fun. Hmmm, wonder what possibilities might shake out with the addition of an accelerometer?

That is freaking cool! Would it be possible to see the code you used for your eyes so that I may try to put them on my RGB Shades!?

Aw just realized you’re probably using video for the eyes… do’h

@Tim_Lukasik I was Just at EDCLV 2016 and was thinking the same thing. Scrolling the posts for ideas and inspiration! Nice Hat!

@Brian_Neuhaus Such an amazing event, the music, the people, the creativity. I love it. I’m going to Nocturnal Wonderland too and will be debuting a new to hat for that event.

This is awesome ! I’m currently here because I’m working on an LED harness for edc and trying to figure out the accelerometer.
I hope I see you there !
