So last year after attending EDC In Las Vegas, I decided I wanted An Owl Hat with glowing eyes. I shopped online but could not find what I wanted, so I decided to make a hat. This lead me down the Maker path and working with micro controllers and LEDs.

Here’s what I created! The wings are made of 6 strands of LEDs, all wired to individual pins so I can control them individually. An Adafruit Bluefruit feather controls these. The face is an El Panel and the eyes are two TFT screens controlled by a Teensy 3.2 controller.

I’m really happy with how this turned out but couldn’t have done it without the help of this community, especially @marmil help.

Next step is to program the bluetooth connection to allow me to choose a color on my phone and have it displayed in the feathers. There’s always something to improve upon!

Wonderful and weird- I want one! The color changing is pretty easy with the Bluefruit app

Fabulous Tim, love it! All the better that you took the Maker path and created your own personal wonderfulness.

The eyes are really fun. Hmmm, wonder what possibilities might shake out with the addition of an accelerometer?
