So, since my printer needs new firmware (I am going to contact pb support), I decided I would work on my frankenbot, I am going to try to repstrap it. Any tips or advice? I have a pretty good idea of how I might do it and I did a little. My hope is to have it run long enough to upgrade it’s parts and make it a real printer not a hacked together one.

Griffin’s version of the frankenbot is far from a hacked together design… Better than my initial version - the reference drawings- by far. Hope you are able to produce the printer you ultimately want!

@Brook_Drumm Yeah his looks great, I think that once I hack something together(without useing printed parts) I can get it printing well enough to print itself new parts. Once I get some stuff done, I will post pics.

My original design was the first time I ever designed something like that. Looking back there are quite a few things that I would change. If we have some leftover parts I might make an updated version of it, but in terms of reliability, the first machine done that is still running old z nut holders and X rod holders has 600 hours on it continuous without any issues (has over 1000 total hours on it in about 8 months). A failed print here and there due to bed separation but other than that it’s been great.

@Brook_Drumm allowed me to work on an 8mm version of which I am just waiting for laser cutter repair to cut the panels. It’s a far far better design in my opinion and much easier to assemble and with less parts.

One thing I can say is that you have quite the advantage with the 12mm rods. Mount them tightly and you should get incredibly good print quality out of it. It is a top notch set of parts at $200.
