So the discussion with regard to STL downloads and charging for prints came up again. sigh
My response was this and id like to get feedback from a greater and more astute audience.

The question was can you charge someone to print an stl they downloaded if its potentially NC.

In short my answer was this. If you download an stl you agree to abide by the license, and thus you may not profit from it. If you need someone to print it for you they did not make that agreement and can charge you for printing it.

So from the other side if someone brings you an stl to print you can charge them to print it as they agreed to the license and downloaded the stl. You have an agreement with that person to print it. Its up to them to abide by the license and not turn around and sell what you printed for them.

You cannot then use that stl that someone gave you make additional prints and sell them to get around the license because in this scenario that stl belongs to the person that sent it to you. You can go and find the stl download and use it but now you’ve agreed to the license and are thus bound by it.

This is a simple way I hope to clarify what you can and cant do with stl files.

Now to stop this becoming a troll convention. I think I’ll simply make it a poll to agree or disagree.
