So the other day I was looking around for a heated bed for my Printrbot Simple 1405, and I found out that Printrbot had released one. Yay! So I ordered it, didn’t read the product description too well, and ended up without the necessary $60 ATX power supply. After doing a little research, it looks like I can buy this power supply: Amazon.com: Logisys Corp. 480W 240-Pin Black Beauty ATX 20+4 Power Supply PS480D-BK : Electronics, or one like it, and Printrbot’s power adapter: http://printrbot.com/shop/y-power-adapter/ and actually be able to afford the heated bed sitting beside my printer. My question is: is this power supply (or a similar one) compatible with the Printrbot Simple 1405, or did Printrbot have to build a special one in order for it to work? Thanks!
That one should work. There’s nothing special about the one that Printrbot sells
Printrbots just use regular ATX power supplies. You’re good, you’ll just need to mod the wiring (which can be tougher based on manufacturer & wattage.)
You may not even need the Y-cable anymore, the adapter I got with my heated bed just needs the +12V 4 pin connector.
Try searching craigslist for used computers or power supplies, you might find a better brand for less.
Go for it!! Nothing special just an ATX powering 12v
Thank you all! I’ve ordered one (no old computers lying around, and I need it pretty fast, so Craigslist wasn’t really an option), and it should be here tomorrow. Thanks again!
