So the upper one isn't sanded. Seems to work very well.

So the upper one isn’t sanded. Seems to work very well. sand wet and everything ist good to go. Just a little more to get a nice and smooth surface.

If you go up the grades you can get a mirror finish. The button to release the lid on my kettle broke so I printed a new one.

I used the auto glym head light restoration kit to do it.

What layer height are you using? .3/.2/.1mm?

Thats .2 mm. Although I would Like to print with .1mm to reduce the needed time for sanding. But the caveat is as always the increase of printing time.

I printed these last week (I know my retraction is off) the one closer was .3 mm and the further one was.2. I did have them side by side but then the picture looked rated-R. missing/deleted image from Google+

I think the .2 one has better details though. When I would try to sand the .3 one it would probably become a low-poly saucer.

Spray primer helps a lot to fill the cracks and minimize sanding. Sand, spray, sand, repeat until smith.

…if you could somehow attach it to a lathe to turn and trim it with a sharp knife!

@Ryan_Carlyle will be the next step.

in my opinion an experience abs and mabs are better finish, pla will turn into mushy thing and will never be nice and polished, it will stick to itself, abs is just so much easier to work with, but harder to print

@Piotr_Sitko you can polish up pla with a bit of work.

The gear knob came up nicely
