So, this is a thing that happened today.

So, this is a thing that happened today. Last cycle is f21000 (350mm/s) on X and Y. Much tweaking still required, all the same mmmmm, catharsis. Edit: Youtube link in comments as g+ is slow with video processing.

Oh, well apparently it’s still processing :/.

The 2 grinding/crunching noises are the gears binding up. I need to buy some PLA and reprint them with that. ABS not ideal for gears that move that fast it seems… Also prone to heat related distortion that can knock them slightly off axis.

Holy crap video, how long does it take you to process?! (Can you upload to your youtube account and link it here maybe? Perhaps YouTube directly has a higher priority for encoding than G+?)

Trying that. 307mb file probably the issue.

Oh ffs. Youtube also processing. Stupid Google, with their ‘free’ services not being instantaneous.

Woo (they must have been listening) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_Kyk4m8eLI&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Oh god it’s so sexy! I think you’re getting close to the extents of speed on the stepper motors though; maybe larger pulleys or a ratio on the gears driven by the motors?

Oh man… that simultaneous X/Y motion is just beautiful. I don’t know why it appeals to me so much, but boy does it ever.

Yep, and I’m using 0.9 degree wantais so top speeds will be limited unless I go down to 1/8 microstepping to compensate which defeats the point. The ratio on those cogs is 1-1 so it’s effectively direct drive. Long term, I think I’ll go to GT2 pulleys instead of the gears, I found some 32 tooth pulleys on AliE with an 8mm bore that I can drill out to 10mm and then I can choose a pulley size for the motor depending if I want to gear up or down. SDP-SI sell Short closed loop belts so that won’t be an issue. Short term, I’ll get it working with the gears so it’s nice and reprappy.
