So this was a test print with my DIY glass print bed.

So this was a test print with my DIY glass print bed. The texture is amazing and it sticks like glue. I mean literally. I almost couldn’t get it off the bed. I’ve had some adhesion issues as of late and problems with larger prints coming off the bed. As you can see I have a solid base layer that I don’t mind cutting off as long as they all stick the way this does. I’m currently in the process of printing parts to a hovercraft that will take 10-12 hours and I’m looking forward to seeing how it holds up.

Glass is amazing as a print surface. Let it cool down all way and the parts release themselves, most at least do. You can probably ditch the brim as well, looks like your part has plenty adhesion on its own. Nice job!

I reduced the brim on a tall part and it moved. I don’t mind removing the brim if it keeps everything locked down.

When I print on plain glass with no glue, I can hear the quiet but distinct crack as the job separates from the bed whilst cooling. Then it just lifts off. You may find though that wide prints, even with quite a brim, still curl up at the edges – which is time to use some diluted PVA (although the underside isn’t so super-smooth then).

just be careful when printing on glass even borosilicate glass! you can take “chunks” out of your glass just by the part cooling and “pop’n off” an interference layer such as blue tape or pei would be ideal i would think, straight glue might/willl take out chunks over time as I’ve seen… http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lxL3gGINNRs/Uv1Wb2DT4DI/AAAAAAAAnAU/whjlnmlKrWs/s1600/IMG_20140208_223357.jpg

PEI works really well. That’s what I have on my bed nowadays.
