So what does everyone think about the new @Ultimaker#3DPrinters?
I’m excited for them, but just slightly disappointed that the GO mini is not a little lower in price… I also hope a battery pack is planned for it If not - that would be my first upgrade. #PrintON
I just got an ultimaker2. I ran a ‘first print’ out of the box and it went well. However, ran a second print and the nozzle became clogged on the second layer.
I was initially impressed with how easy the set-up and run was (compared to my other printer, a TAZ4). I’m bummed that the nozzle is already jammed now though.
People keep billing the printers like the go mini here as the ones that will make 3d printing mainstream but at that price how can they? I’m soon to be receiving an M3D micro from kickstarter and that only cost me ~£200($300) and they will be going on general sale soon for $350, that’s the sort of price that will take 3D printers mainstream.
I’m really liking the um2go but I have always been a sucker for the tantillus size. Daid was working on a um1 style tiny printer called the titan, guess the um2go will be close enough. How about a similar sized slid3r
I thought the regular UM2 was pretty compact as it is. It’s just very efficient on build volume per machine size.
Adam McBride: 3D printers do jam. Sometimes it’s a setting, too hot or too cold or even letting the nozzle sit at heated temp without extruding plastic. There should be tutorials out there to handle it. After you’ve gotten a feel for the machine and material, the jams should be rare.
I was over there earlier today. The build quality is good, the prints looked good. But they should it’s a trade show…
Compared to the low cost consumer offerings from XYZ and others the quality of all the UM machines is much better. And there is no filament or software lock in.
Many keep making comparisons to when the PC was introduced. I was around then. As an adult.Saying the UM 2 Go is needlessly expensive as James has said ignores the history and price points of legacy tech. Way back when the first hard drives I saw were about a grand. IIRC that was only 10MB.
With a couple of exceptions the sub $500 consumer space printer has yet to be realized. The reason a UM or Solidoodle or Makerbot costs what they do is because that is the margin they need to produce them at that scale with the support and business infrastructure required for the operation. the garage based Reprap guys can get by on 10-15% net margin but in a real business that’s not sustainable.
If anything CES 2015 has told us about consumer 3D printing is that it’s nearly left its Reprap roots in the dust.
GO mini looks like a really nice piece of hardware. The price tag is probably set a little bit higher than expected, but it’s like buying a new 60" LED TV. While the competitive and easily transportable #3dprinter promises much more fun!
More importantly, with an average UK salary being approx. £ 26 500, the price should be OK for you, I guess. Unfortunately, our average salary here is about CZK 300 000 (~ 3 times less than UK), so I don’t expect to see them around.
