So… what on earth causes this? I started up this print and then went to bed. When I came downstairs to check on it this morning, it appears to have just said “meh, I’m not doing that” in the middle for a bit…
Take a look at the model, layer by layer. Also, could have been a clog.
Can’t quite tell from the picture but it looks shifted to me. That could be from a motor overheating, belts too tight or too loose, or the nozzle hung up on the print from a warp or curl.
I checked the layers before printing, and I had basically this same error at nearly the same height in an earlier print. What can I do to reduce the likelihood of a clog?
Could also be the filament tension. Low tension on the filament feed causes it to slip in the stepper motor and several layers could be missed before it starts feeding properly again, with nothing beneath it to adhere to. Ends up looking like this. There should be a screw in the print head to tighten it up.
hmm… I’ve felt like the filament stand wasn’t super useful… maybe I’ll get some bearings for the reel next time I order stuff so it rolls smoother and figure out a better placement for it.
@Michael_Shepherd what material are you using?
My printer made the same thing, the error was in the g-code, try using a different g-code generator.
I used simplify3d and cura and they do not work.
Now i use repetier host with slic3r for g-codes , and it is perfect.
Also in past i have problem of overheating with the mks 1.4 so i added heatsinks on chips and i also installed a little fan to cool the whole board…
The first time I had the problem it was Cura. This time it was Slic3r… i’ll try heatsinks.
