So when the Massdrop guys first showed up and got together with the mods of this community, I was very hesitant about what they might actually be able to offer. In fact, anyone who saw the conversation would say I was downright hostile.

Turns out, they can offer some pretty good prices on stuff some of us need. I’m a little ‘eh’ that it’s a 4 pack, with no option for a 5-pack but at $10 ea and $5 shipping (USA) that’s not a bad price. And the motors (according to the specs) pack a punch. 59Ncm/http://6kg.cm/83oz.in and rated for 2A

Do 2A steppers play well with standard Pololu drivers?

I’d probably be more keen to use the DRV8825-based drivers rather than the A4988 that pololu offers. – http://www.pololu.com/product/2133 They’re rated for 2.2A and have 1/32 microstepping.

And if you don’t need the full torque rating, you can turn the current down so that they don’t run hot.

Yes but the Pololu driver current pot is incredibly fiddly. That’s why I ask if they play well.

I’ve been running 2.5A rated steppers with normal A4988 drivers and they’ve always supplied me with more than enough torque. Granted, i have heatsinks and a fan on the drivers and they’re probably not supplying the full amperage, but in my opinion, having a little headroom on the motors is better than running them at temperatures that might melt your plastic parts or require a fan on the motor.

It’s a shame it’s not a 5 pack, but since I have 4 spare drivers after upgrading I couldn’t resist, I’m now building a second printer  probably one of the newer mostly printable designs.

@Liam_Jackson it’s perfect for a not-mendel-based design. Tantillus, Ingentis, Ultimaker, etc all don’t require the dual-z motors so there are lots of other full fledged printers you can build.

Only $7.37 shipping to .au, I am impressed!

Did you guys see the PLA for 15$ a kilogram
