[SOLVED]
I figured it out, It’s to do with the retraction happening every layer, Each time it retracts at a different corner, That why the pattern repeats in a spiral every 4 layers.I fixed it by tweaking extra restart and coasting + moving all the retracts closest 1 position.
Has anyone here ever seen a problem like this ?
the pic below is a 45mm tall tower, with 15mm of each [0.3,0.2,0.1] layer heights.
0.1mm layers print great. but larger ones have terrible ridges.
it’s printed in PLA and sliced in S3D.
my machine is a delta printer.
Axis wobble i think. I had the same issue with mine. Tighten or replace the nyloc nuts connecting the drive belt to the build plate and add a few washers to spread the tighter load and you should be fine.
I’d also say that there is a bit of overextrusion; the 0.1mm layers look too ridged to me. I could expect some “moiré”, but not it to be so “bumpy” (even with that pic enlargement). I’ve checking my bed heat dilation lately (Kapton heater + aluminum + glass), and it’s near to irrelevant, but YMMV (not all beds are created equal). I’d check the slicer extrusion width; the effect is consistent with having, say, a 200% extrusion width, being calculated from the layer height (bigger layer heights would mean more overextrusion). So it would look “squished”, though being z-dimensionally correct; with a bed problem, it would be the same effect in all layer heights, and it doesn’t look like that.
You could try setting a fixed extrusion width or lower the settings and see what happens…
And FWIW, yes, I do have a Delta
haha thanks for your help everyone, Sorry I haven’t updated soon, Been super busy. Anyways I have made a test tower width a vast amount of different sections for testing different extrusion rates + turned my bed off, And that made little to no difference, But at least i know that’s not the issue. gonna mess around with extrusion widths and see if that makes a difference. right now i’m using a 0.4mm nozzle with a 0.42 width extrusion in the settings.
Are all the perimeters on consecutive layers laid down in the same direction or start at the same position? If not, then it will probably be a backlash problem which will position the head slightly differently depending on the travel direction vector.
