Some mosfet help please
I went to my local electronics shop this morning looking to find an appropriately sized mosfet.
I read through some forums and picked out some recommend mosfets. I could’ve find any of those in my local store unfortunately.
I purchased the IRFZ44 N-FET which was the closest match.
Is this mosfet ok to use for a heated bed.
Its a 550W bed with 24V supply.
I calculated a constant current of 23A.
Any help and wiring up suggestions would be appreciated. Also if you have any suggestions on protection using a diode…
Nothing to big about it. Source on mass, drain on the heatbed, the other side of the heatbed to you 24V. Protectiondiode like in most mosfets inside
get a heatsink just for fun
dont know the rdson but about 0.1ohm. Is enough for a heatsink ^^
This is the heatsink i bought.
I actually have one on order based on a suggestion from @raykholo .
But,
I was tired of waiting for shipping and went to a local store in Cyprus (tiny island), and this is all they had which came close to what I needed. I want to test out my heatbed. If this mosfet won’t burn out given the current, then i want to give it a try.
Will it burn up?
I’ll be using the ones on order for long term. I’ll try making the circuit with these first, and hopefully can install the new mosfit when it arrives. I’ll install a fan as well.
+Peter van der Walt thats true. Maybe a nother fet or a bipolar transistor or any other driver divice would be good. Althou its threshold voltage is between 2-4V. But youll get a very high resistance on that.
@Panayiotis_Savva I use some ICL 7667 mosfetdrivers for that application. They are not the best and not the cheapest. But most easiest to wire up (aka in/out, thats all, but inverting)
