Something a little different we’re playing with - 3D Scanning! =D
What did you use to scan this?
We used a Asus Xtion Pro Live + Skanect =)
I cannot get my Asus Xtion Pro (not Live) to work with any combination of software/computers
@Roy_Griffith not even the test applications that come with the SDK from http://openni.org ?
The Xtion Pro Live is out of stock everywhere, and PrimeSense has stopped selling cameras yesterday. Interesting times are coming to the 3D scanning market.
@Daniel_Canelhas I bought it about a year ago, and have tried off and on since then to get it to work, on 4 different computers and Win & and iOS
Ok, I did try Fablitec and it looks like it works, but I cannot save the mesh because I haven’t purchased the software license. Is there a software package that is free that I could try?
@Roy_Griffith There are a few open-source alternatives for 3D reconstruction available. I guess they may be a far cry from what one might expect of a “software package” though. I developed a c++ library for my masters thesis that produces a 3d model from a moving Asus/kinect camera and exports in STL and OBJ formats. The pointcloud library also has some nice apps for this that allow exporting models too. This would probably be the easiest way to go. http://pointclouds.org
@Roy_Griffith , did you have Nvida graphics cards for your machines because we faced that little issue at the start too due to supported drivers. Otherwise, you can try to drop them a note in their forum as they’re pretty quick to respond and help you out!
@Shachar_Weis -Interesting to know that Asus & Primesense has stopped selling these sensors… Wonder how the latest acquisiton by Apple is going to change things …
