Somewhat of an oddball question.

Somewhat of an oddball question. But I’m about to pull the trigger on a fairly pricey unit. (Ultimaker 2)

Does anyone have information regarding third party warranty services? I’d like to make sure my investment is covered for at least a year if not more. Ultimaker sadly only warranties for 3 months.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Haha, hes the reason im getting one. I actually tweeted him about just buying one. I may need to hit him up again for warranty advice.

@Josh1 depends on the country your in.
In Europe the warranty would be a minimum of 12 months on a new product.
If they are offering 3 months I’d not bother…as that tells you how quickly you’d be spending.

@Josh1 one thing to be aware: they don’t sell Ultiboard for Ultimaker 2 without a printer. If you managed to fry your board, you’re in the trouble (I am an Ultimaker 2 owner and I partially fried my board)

I see they have: https://www.ultimaker.com/products/electronics (Ultimaker original)

Is this what you’re referring to @Ivan_Krasin ? If so, do you think it’s smart to wait for them to provide spare parts for the new model? Or do they just not offer it for any of their products?

What did you end up having to do?

@Josh1 that’s just for the original Ultimaker, yeah. The board on Ultimaker 2 is completely different and is not on sale.

I would recommend to ask them before buying your Ultimaker, what would happen if you need a new board.

Overall, Ultimaker 2 is a nice printer.

Good call, and thanks a bunch for the suggestion. @Ivan_Krasin . I’m signing up with their forum currently.

It sounds like they are pretty customer-centric from what I’m hearing.

@Josh1 they are friendly, but I failed to report an overheating issue (by design) to them despite having a nice photo: https://plus.google.com/115075007100336791502/posts/gLFXwsS74BZ

Did some research and found Square Trade offers extended warranties on 3D Printers if you’re ever in the market to extend the coverage on your investment.

Support is a bit slow to respond, but so far nothing to outrageous. I will most likely call when I get closer to placing the order from Ultimaker.
